#CLEANFORTHEQUEEN - Big Clean up in Luton - 2016

Clean for the Queen – join the team?

Luton’s community will rally together to tidy up the town on Friday 4th and Saturday 5th March 2016 as part of the national ‘Clean for the Queen’ campaign.
Launched by Country Life magazine, the campaign aims to celebrate the 90th birthday of Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II with a special weekend of cleaning across the country.

The event in Luton is being organised by local homeless charity Signposts, supported by Love Luton, Luton Borough Council and The Rotary Club of Luton.  A number of community groups, businesses and residents have also already pledged their support.

Over the two days the team will tidy 8 different areas in Luton before finishing with a deep clean of the town centre.
Phyl Rainey, Community Development Manager at Signposts, said: “We’ve already had such a fantastic response from people who want to get involved, but we would like even more people to join us.
“Luton is a town we should all be really proud of and we can help show our pride and say happy birthday to The Queen by joining together to tidy up. I’d really encourage anyone interested to come along and help out on what will be a fantastic weekend.”

Nationally the campaign has gathered wide-spread support, including from Environmental Minister Rory Steward. He said: Her Majesty the Queen is an inspiration to all of us. Her 90th birthday is a unique opportunity for people to come together in celebration of Her Majesty’s long service and dedication to this country.

“Everyone has a responsibility to keep their community tidy and this campaign provides us with a great chance to protect our wildlife and improve the quality of our streets and public spaces. I hope it will help lead to a lasting legacy of a cleaner, tidier Britain.”
